Tucker Amidon - Men's Head Lacrosse Coach / Program Director
Lacrosse has been a part of Head Coach Tucker Amidon's life since he started playing as a high school sophomore in Chicago, Illinois. He continued his playing career at UC Irvine, where he was part of the 1994 WCLL Division II championship team. For the last nine years, he has coached boys’ and girls’ youth recreation and club lacrosse teams, and this is his fourth year as a coach in the YLHS high school program, second as head of the program. He loves this sport, its traditions, and its evolution, and he's thankful every day that he gets to stay connected to it and watch these incredible athletes play with such intelligence, skill, and grit.
Coach Amidon is husband to his amazing wife (an elementary teacher), a father of three amazing kids (all of whom played/play lacrosse), a professor of English at Riverside City College, a shade tree mechanic, and a mediocre guitarist.
In all aspects of his life, Coach Amidon has made mental health an absolute priority in his teaching and coaching, particularly for today's youth and college students, and has partnered with the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) to provide a healthy, competitive, and enriching experience for student-athletes that improves life skills, promotes character development, and fosters inclusivity.
While Coach Amidon likes to win games and strives hard to field competitive teams, he will always emphasize sportsmanship, team camaraderie, and the joy of playing sports. He never forgets that these are kids playing a game.
